Solar Pool Heating and Solar Water Heaters in North Fort Myers

Cape Coral Solar Water Heater Pros heats pools and household water with the sun for North Fort Myers owners, from manufactured homes in 55+ golf communities to block homes off Hancock Bridge Pkwy and Pondella Rd. North Fort Myers borders northeast Cape Coral, so it is one of our shortest drives: 15 to 25 minutes out Pine Island Rd.

Many of our customers here spend part of the year up north. Since 2010 we have learned to plan around that, with systems set to run safely in an empty house and pre-season checks booked for October and November, before the owner flies back.

We are licensed and insured, we pull the Lee County permit on every job that needs one, and our workmanship on every new system is warranted for 5 years, parts and labor.

Solar Heating Services Across North Fort Myers

We cover all of North Fort Myers, the unincorporated part of Lee County across the river from downtown Fort Myers. Repair visits are usually booked within 2 to 3 business days, and leaks and no-hot-water calls move to the front of the line.

The housing here is more mixed than in Cape Coral, and each type needs its own approach to mounting and sizing. These are the parts of North Fort Myers we work in most:

  • Del Tura and the other 55+ manufactured home and golf communities
  • Lochmoor and the golf course neighborhoods around it
  • Suncoast Estates and its older block homes
  • Block homes off Hancock Bridge Pkwy and Pondella Rd
  • Homes along Bayshore Rd (SR 78) and the Caloosahatchee waterfront
  • The US 41 and Business 41 corridors, including the Shell Factory area

US 41, Business 41 and Bayshore Rd carry our trucks across the rest of the community. Pine Island, Lehigh Acres and our other towns are listed on the Southwest Florida service areas page.

Away for the summer

Solar Heating for Seasonal and Part-Time Residents

A solar pool heater and a solar water heater can both be left alone for months if they are set up correctly before you leave in spring. Most seasonal owners close the house from May to October, the hottest and stormiest stretch of the year.

Here is how to handle each part of the time you are away. Pre-season and annual visits run through our solar maintenance and storm inspection service.

Before You Leave in Spring

Set the pool controller to automatic with a sensible setpoint, or turn solar off if the pool will sit unused. Switch the solar water heater's backup element to vacation or off so it is not heating water for an empty house.

Storms While You Are Gone

Leave the panels on the roof, since pulling them down ahead of a storm is unsafe and not recommended. After a named storm, nobody should restart the system until it is checked, and our $149 post-storm inspection includes a dated photo report you can send your insurer.

The hurricane-ready solar heating guide has the full before and after checklist.

A Rare Winter Freeze

Freezes are rare here, but the January 2010 and late December 2022 cold snaps were real. Pool panels drain down when the pump stops if the plumbing is pitched correctly and the vacuum relief valve works, and closed loop water heaters carry propylene glycol that will not freeze.

Coming Back in the Fall

Book a pre-season check in October or November so the pool is already warm when you arrive. The annual solar pool heater inspection is $169, and a combined pool and water heater visit is $299.

Manufactured homes

Options for Manufactured Homes and Low-Slope Roofs

Most manufactured homes in North Fort Myers can take solar heating, but the roof has to be checked before anything is mounted. These homes usually have shallow-pitch metal or rolled roofs, which need different attachments and lighter loads than a block home's concrete tile.

On a manufactured home the usual project is a solar water heater, since few have a private pool; where there is a pool or spa, the same checks apply to pool panels.

What We Check on the Roof

We look at the framing, the age of any roof-over and whether the metal or rolled covering is sound enough to fasten through. Rusted fasteners, soft spots or a low area that holds water get fixed or ruled out before we quote.

Mounting on Metal and Rolled Roofs

We fasten into the framing rather than the thin roof sheet alone and seal every penetration, which carries our 10-year leak coverage. On a shallow pitch we also slope the pool headers toward a drain point, so the panels still empty when the pump stops.

When the Roof Cannot Carry Panels

If the roof is too weak or near the end of its life, a system can sometimes go on a carport, a shed roof or a ground rack, where the lot and the community allow it. We say so plainly at the estimate rather than forcing panels onto a roof that should not carry them.

Community Rules and Land Leases

Many 55+ communities have their own rules on rooftop equipment, and in a land-lease community the park owner may need to sign off too. Bring a copy of your community's rules to the estimate and we will work to them.

Lee County permits

Permits in Unincorporated Lee County

North Fort Myers has no city government, so solar permits here go through the Lee County Department of Community Development, not the City of Cape Coral or the City of Fort Myers. Lee County requires a permit to add or modify a solar pool heater or a solar water heater, and we pull it for you.

A North Fort Myers permit runs in four steps:

  • We confirm the parcel, the roof type and any community approval at the estimate.
  • We prepare the package: the collector data sheet with its SRCC certification, the roof layout and the mounting details.
  • We submit it to Lee County DCD and schedule the install once the permit is issued.
  • We schedule the county's inspection and tell you when the permit is closed, even if you are out of state.

Mounting is engineered to the design wind speed for your address under the Florida Building Code 8th Edition and ASCE 7. The 9th Edition takes effect December 31, 2026, and we follow whichever edition applies on the permit date.

Local questions

North Fort Myers Solar FAQs

These are the questions part-time residents and manufactured home owners in North Fort Myers ask us most.

Can you shut down my solar system while I'm away?

Yes. We can set the pool controller and the water heater's backup element for an empty house before you leave, then return for a pre-season check in October or November. If you prefer to do it yourself, the spring steps listed above are all it takes.

Is my roof strong enough for pool solar panels?

Most block homes with tile, shingle or metal roofs carry pool panels with no structural work, because the panels are lightweight polypropylene and the water in them drains back to the pool when the pump stops. Manufactured homes and older roof-overs are the exception, so we inspect the framing and covering at every estimate before we quote.

What should I do if my solar tank leaks while the house is empty?

Have someone shut the cold water supply to the tank and switch off the breaker for its backup element. Then call us: leak and no-hot-water calls go to the front of the line, and a tank swap takes 3 to 5 hours.
