About Us: Your Cape Coral Solar Heating Contractor Since 2010

Cape Coral Solar Water Heater Pros is a Cape Coral solar heating contractor that does one job: heating pools and household water with the sun. We install, repair and maintain solar pool heaters, solar water heaters and pool heat pumps for homeowners, condo boards and HOAs from Punta Gorda to Bonita Springs.

Most solar companies in Southwest Florida now lead with rooftop PV and batteries, but we have stayed with solar thermal since 2010. Our days are spent on header leaks, diverter valves, glycol loops and storage tanks, the parts of solar heating that PV installers rarely open up.

In 17 seasons we have worked on everything from 1970s shingle homes in the Southeast Cape to tile-roofed new builds in Sandoval, and on equipment from manufacturers that no longer exist. That range is why we can quote a new system accurately and keep an old one running.

Since 2010

Our Story in Southwest Florida

We started in 2010, the year a January cold snap left pools across Southwest Florida unswimmable for weeks and sent homeowners looking for heat that would not double their electric bill. Solar pool heating answered that for many Cape Coral canal homes, and those first calls set the pattern for the company.

Why We Chose Solar Thermal

A solar heating collector turns sunlight into heat directly in the water passing through it, with no fuel and almost no running cost. For a Florida pool or a family's hot water, that is a simpler and cheaper job than making electricity and turning it back into heat. We do not sell PV systems or batteries, and we say so at the first visit.

What Hurricane Ian Changed

Ian's landfall in September 2022 started a re-roofing wave across Cape Coral that is still going. Panel removal and reinstall for new roofs and post-storm inspections became regular work for us, and what we saw on damaged roofs shaped how we mount every new system.

Keeping Orphaned Systems Running

FAFCO closed in late 2024, leaving many Florida owners without factory support, and many local installers from earlier decades are gone too. Our solar pool heater repair service exists largely for those owners.

Licensing

Florida Licenses and Certifications for Solar Heating

We are licensed and insured for the solar heating work we do. Florida Statute 489.105 defines which contractor licenses cover solar pool and water heating, and SRCC certification covers the equipment itself.

What each credential covers and where to check it
CredentialWhat it coversHow to check it
Certified Solar Contractor (CVC)Installing, repairing, maintaining and replacing solar pool heating, potable solar water heating and solar PVDBPR license verification
Certified Plumbing Contractor (CFC)Plumbing work, including solar water heatingDBPR license verification
SRCC OG-100One solar collector's tested thermal output and durabilitySRCC certified product directory
SRCC OG-300A complete solar water heating system: collector, tank, pump and controls rated togetherSRCC certified product directory

Before hiring any solar contractor, ours included, look up the license on DBPR and confirm it is active and the right class for the job. Then ask for the SRCC number of the collector or system named on the quote.

Certification matters here because of Florida's Solar Energy Standards Act, Statute 377.705. The Florida Solar Energy Center no longer tests solar thermal equipment itself and accepts SRCC or IAPMO certification, while older FSEC certifications stay valid. The SRCC explains the OG-100 and OG-300 programs in more detail.

Equipment

The Brands We Install and Service

We install a short list of equipment chosen for salt air, high wind and a parts supply we can count on years from now. We repair almost everything else that turns up on Southwest Florida roofs.

Pool Collectors We Install

Unglazed black polypropylene panels from Heliocol, built by Magen Eco-Energy in Ocoee, Florida, and from Techno-Solis. Both come in 4 x 10 and 4 x 12 foot sizes, and Heliocol's individual-tube panels carry a 12-year limited manufacturer warranty.

Solar Water Heater Equipment

Glazed flat plate collectors with tempered glass, mainly SunEarth Empire and ThermoRay, paired with 80 or 120 gallon Rheem Solaraide or SunEarth storage tanks. We skip evacuated tubes on local roofs because flat plates handle wind, salt air and mild winters better for less money.

Controls and Valves

Pentair SolarTouch and Hayward Goldline GL-235 differential controllers, motorized three-way diverter valves with actuators, check valves, vacuum relief valves and isolation valves. These small parts usually fail long before the panels do.

Brands We Repair

FAFCO and FAFCO SunSaver, Aquatherm and Solar Industries, iSwim, SunValue, Hi-Tech, Universal, SunStar and rubber mat pool systems. On the heat pump side we service Hayward HeatPro, Pentair UltraTemp and AquaCal, which is made in St. Petersburg, Florida.

On the job

How We Work on Your Roof

A solar heater is only as good as the roof work under it, so our job standards start with the roof. These habits apply on every job in Cape Coral, Lee County and Charlotte County.

Tile Lifted, Not Broken

On concrete tile we lift the tiles at each mount, set flashed mounts on the deck, and reset or replace tiles so they lie flat again. That care is why a tile install takes 1 to 2 days instead of one.

Flashed and Sealed Penetrations

Every penetration we make is flashed and sealed, then backed by 10 years of leak coverage. The mount and the seal come from the same crew, so there is never a question about who owns a drip.

Stainless Wherever Salt Reaches

We use 316 stainless straps and fasteners on every system, not only on canal lots. Salt air carries well inland on a windy day, and zinc-plated hardware we remove from older roofs is often rusted through.

Permits and Inspections Handled

We pull the permit on every job that needs one, whether that means Cape Coral's EnerGov portal, Lee County DCD, Charlotte County, Punta Gorda, Bonita Springs or Estero. We also schedule the inspections, so you never have to sit on hold with a building department.

A Real Handover

Before we leave, we pressure test the plumbing, set the controller and walk you through the manual, storm and freeze settings. Owners who leave for the summer also get the shutdown steps for their exact system.

Service After the Sale

Our annual solar maintenance and storm inspections catch worn valves, loose straps and tired glycol before they turn into a cold pool or a high bill. Most owners book theirs in October or November, before the cool months.

Warranties

Warranties and Our Workmanship Promise

Every new installation carries our written 5 year parts and labor workmanship warranty, plus 10 years on the roof penetrations we make. Manufacturer warranties sit on top of ours and cover the equipment itself.

Manufacturer Panel and Tank Warranties

Heliocol pool panels carry a 12-year limited manufacturer warranty, and Rheem Solaraide storage tanks carry a 6-year tank warranty. Pool heat pump coverage varies by model, and we give you the manufacturer's terms in writing with the quote.

Our Labor and Roof Penetration Coverage

Our own coverage is written in years, not in phrases like "best in the industry."

  • New installations: 5 years parts and labor on our work
  • Roof penetrations we make: 10 years of leak coverage
  • Repairs: 1 year parts and labor on the parts we replace
  • Panel removal and reinstall: 5 years on our reinstall work and the penetrations we seal
  • Heat pump installation labor: 2 years

When a manufacturer closes, as FAFCO did, its factory warranty usually goes with it. Our repair warranty still covers every part we replace on that system, whatever brand is on the panels.

Typical jobs

What a Typical Job With Us Looks Like

These are three of our most common jobs, described the way they usually go. Your home will differ in the details, but the steps and price ranges hold for most of the Cape.

A Pool Heater on a Southwest Cape Canal Home

Picture a 15 by 30 foot screened pool behind a tile-roofed block home, with a west-facing roof over the garage. That usually means 10 panels and an automatic controller, a 1 to 2 week EnerGov permit, and a 1 to 2 day install for $5,800 to $7,400 plus the controller.

A Water Heater Stuck on Backup in Pelican

A 12 year old solar water heater still makes hot water, but the electric bill keeps climbing. The usual cause is a failed circulating pump or controller sensor, and our solar water heater repair service often finds it in one visit.

A New Metal Roof in the Southeast Cape

An older shingle home is getting a standing seam roof after Ian, and the pool panels have to come off. We remove them in half a day, store them in the garage, and reinstall on new stainless hardware in 1 day once the roof passes inspection, at about $150 to $230 per panel.
